Dr. Allen G. Harbaugh-Schattenkirk has lived all over the globe.  He’s now Longwood University's very first Assistant Professor of Statistics. He earned his PhD from the University of Washington in Learning Sciences (a nouveaux term for educational psychology).

He is an international scholar with publications spanning many topics and disciplines: cyber-bullying, fast-food consumption, sports related brain trauma, online micro-aggressions…to name just a few.

His current research projects include methodological modeling of response-styles in Likert-type survey response data (that's the statistics part of his work), in addition to research on epistemic belief change in compulsory learning environments, the relationship between motivation and the development of expertise, and statistics education. After spending all his time at work grappling with problems with no clear cut solution, he finds it relaxing to work on jigsaw puzzles, which usually have only one solution (depending on how hard you're willing to push the pieces into place).
